They were two brothers, both composers. One of them played the violin and he's very famous. The other was a brillant pianist but almost unknown until today. The first died young. There's a famous Souvenir. Who were they?

Joseph and Michael Haydn were both quite well known in their day, and both were equally capable violinists. Then there are the Bach kids (better keyboard players though). Then there's the Rubnstein brothers (Anton and Nicolai). Or perhaps you mean Giacomo Mayerbeer and his brother (whose name escapes me)? Modest Tchaikovsky was the string player in that family, while Piotr is the better known composer (having written the well known "Souvenir de Florence"). Fritz Kreisler didn't have a musician brother, but he did play the piano "better than the violin" according to his wife. Did Leopold Mozart have a brother? Wolfgang Mozart didn't. And I also don't know about the Wasilievsky brothers (Karl and the Major) well enough. So whose name are you looking for?
