What rare form of legal protection against violence exists in the laws of Scotland but not in the laws of England and Wales?

Question #61074. Asked by gmackematix. (Dec 17 05 10:24 AM)

Is this in reference to the "Protection from Abuse (Scotland) Act 2001, which provides access to protection that was difficult to get previously because previous efforts at interdicts (I think that's similar to the USA's restraining orders) were not supported by the power of arrest.

    Not quite.
I am referring to a law that has been around in Scotland for centuries and still exists in Scots law but is little used today.
Something similar has much more famously been introduced into English and Welsh law in the last ten years.

Well, I seem to have stumped everyone here, but it was a bit obscure.
From Scotland, the land of "not proven" and Procurators Fiscal comes this quirky and rarely used law, an alternative to court orders.
