Where did we get the magic word "abracadabra"?

    Question #61106. Asked by my_baby_love. (Dec 19 05 12:21 PM)

    Arpeggionist

The origins of the word are very mysterious. They first appear in the second century C.E. Some believe they are a transliteration of the acronym representing the Hebrew terms for the Holy Trinity - Av (father), Ben (son), Ruach (h)aKodesh (holy spirit).

Also, this cabalistic word, said to have been the name of the supreme diety of the Assyrians, was recommended as a charm against ague and flux - if written on a piece of paper and hung around the neck.
