Which famous sporting prize gets its colour from the newspaper that originally sponsored it?

Question #61442. Asked by gmackematix. (Jan 02 06 9:40 PM)

That would be the Maglia Rosa (pink jersey), after the colour of paper used by La Gazzetta dello Sport. This of course was a cunning plan used in the Giro d'Italia, inspired by the Tour de France.

You have to get a yay for that, peasy! I was thinking of the "maillot jaune" itself, which also took its colour from the pages of a newspaper.

Of course, I knew the Italian sporting paper was pink from the old Shrek question, but didn't know there was a pink jersey in the Giro d'Italia.
