The link below gives a national total of 408 billion gallons per day for all purposes, including both fresh and salt water. Another site gives a very similar figure of 402 billion gallons per day for 1995. This would give a yearly total of about 149 trillion (149,000,000,000,000) U.S. gallons or 5.64 trillion hectolitres.
