How long has No 10 Downing Street been the official residence of the British Prime Minister?

Since King George II presented this poky little house to Sir Robert Walpole in 1732. Prior to that one of its owners had been a Mr Chicken. George Downing's original terrace was built on a bog so suffered from subsidence. The remaining houses, namely 10,11 and 12 have cracks to show for it.
