Sandy Dumbrowski became Sandy Olsson in "Grease" when the musical became a film. For that reason, "Look at Me, I'm Sandra Dee" was no longer suitable. Or I assume so, since I've never seen either the musical or the film, and I had to go to the wikipedia site on "Grease" to find a list of songs. Here's the IMDB site. Well, gmack, like most academics, I'm more or less a professional researcher. I just thought about some possible search terms ("character," "name change," "musical," etc.) on the basis of your question, entered them into Google in various combinations, and after a couple of minutes, I came up with that IMDB trivia site for "Grease." Yes, a few choice phrases can get you a long way in Google (as in life). His singing wasn't bad as it happens. It surprised me, but according to Wikipedia, Travolta had released 17 singles in the US before "Grease", startng back in 1969. John Travolta had a top 10 hit in the mid 70's with "Let Her In" At the time he had a crush on Olivia Newton John and on his album cover he was standing in the woods, wearing a denim long sleeve shirt with arms folded.
