Actually, A.D. is from the Latin Anno Domini which means "Year of Our Lord" and is dated from the BIRTH of Christ... and scholars do question the accuracy of that particular dating to within about 7 years before or after what we might refer to as the "zero year"... ... and the reason some people prefer C.E. is because A.
