Yay Frankie! I was wondering if you would be the first to jump on that one.
I must admit that I hadn't realised Faust was based on any real person at all.
I've also just seen a certain verbal similarity between "Me, Faust" and "Mephisto", but that's probably coincidence.

Maybe not.
I saw Samuel Ramey sing his famous Mephistopheles in Gounod's "Faust" not too long ago. A performance to die for.
