Thomas Jefferson?

Buchanan was a lifelong bachelor. However, both Jefferson and Martin Van Buren were widowers. I believe that Woodrow Wilson lost his first wife during his presidency. Andrew Jackson was still married when he was elected in 1828, but his wife Rachel died just two or three weeks later, so he entered the White House, in 1829, as a widower.

I think it is Martin Van Buren.

Woodrow Wilson was married when he left office (his wife practically ran the country after his stroke) so I dont think he lost his wife during his presidency.

Wilson was married twice. His first wife was Ellen Axson, who died in 1914. His second wife, whom he married in December of 1915, was Edith Bolling Galt. Edith is the one who is often said to have run the country after Wilson's stroke.
