These are, as best I can tell, Welsh holiday customs. "Holming" refers to beating young women (or the last person to get out of bed) with holly-branches. "Hunting the Wren" was/is a Twelfth Night custom in which young men captured a wren, took it around to various houses in a decorated cage, and received food and drink.
"Totem" may refer to Calennig, a New Year's custom, when young boys carried various items -- evergreen branches and water, fruit, nuts, etc. to houses for luck and received small coins in exchange for them. One site I saw said that they carry fruit with three legs made out of sticks or twigs, and these are the "totems."
