    How does one get from flax to linen?

    		Quite complicated in some ways. You have to rett (= rot) the stalks of the flax plant to get the fibres out, and there's different ways of doing this. One is by soaking it in pools of water, another by spreading it out in wet fields. Here's an excellent site about it: http://www.ancientroute.com/resource/cloth/linen.htm
