    What was the first year that Canada participated in the Olympics?

    		Well, according to the Wikipedia site on the 1896 Olympics, Canadians did not participate that year. However, I saw in David Wallechinsky's "Complete Book of the Summer Olympics," that Canada won a gold and a bronze in Paris in 1900. A little research turned up the fact that both medals were won by George Orton, a steeplechaser:
