The Battle of Fishguard, the last time England was invaded by a foreign army (French). Feb. 18-24, 1797.

And was THAT a pathetic affair!
Mochyn, I was somewhat perplexed by the question, since the Fishguard invasion is given as having taken place on the 22nd and the introduction of the pound note by the Bank of England on the 26th. Nothing in between.
