Why is Rosa Parks usually known as "The Woman Who Changed a Nation"?

    Question #62853. Asked by jackjani.

    lanfranco

Rosa Parks (1913-2005), a Montgomery, Alabama seamstress, sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1955, when she refused to give up her bus seat to white passengers and move to the back. Her arrest, and the support she received from activists, made a substantial contribution to the U.S. Civil Rights Movement:

In way, she did change a nation. She served as a catalyst to end segregation.

Sorry, you know I had to add my two cents, frankie.

It's not my question, Priscilla. Your two cents are fine with me.

I think, in addition, she was an important symbol that encouraged Blacks to protest against and not to accept the Jim Crowe segregation laws and also gave a clear example to Whites how stupid and unfair these laws were and made many of them more opposed to segregation. "why should an older woman who wasn't bothering anyone have to walk to the back of a bus just because of the color of her skin?"

She became famous when she refused to give up her seat on the bus for a black person. Her stand and then campaigning for equal rights did change a nation.
