What is a "ghost scene" in reference to Greek drama?

There are at least a couple of extant ghost scenes in ancient Greek drama, but they are so rare that I don't think it's possible to speak of a particular convention or style, except in the context of the playwright, who in both well-known cases is Aeschylus.
One appears in the play "The Persians," when Atossa sees the ghost of her husband, Darius; another appears in "The Eumenides," when the ghost of Clytemnestra shows up:
