    Question #62915. sandman1940 asks:

Who painted the rings around the eyes of Smiley Burnette's horse? Been searching for 50 odd years.

Smiley Burnette's horse was named Ring Eye and was white with a black ring around one eye, but I've not been able to find who painted the ring.

A quick look tells me the ring around Nellie's (Ring-eye) left eye was not natural, it was made with the dauber from a bottle of black shoe dye. As to the lucky stage-boy who got to play Rembrandt, it could be another 50 year wait, in the mean time I found a picture of the equine in all his glory.
