    Where in the U.S. can one find what is almost certainly the world's only monument to a drug, and what event does it commemorate?

    		This 40 foot tall monument commemorates the first use of ether as an anesthetic under the Etherdome at Massachusetts General Hospital On October 16, 1846. It stands in a prominent spot in the Boston Public Garden, and is the world's only monument to a drug.

    The 135 year old marble and granite monument sorely needs restoration. The Massachusetts Society of Anesthesiologists seeks to restore the monument to its original beauty, and to maintain it in perpetuity.
