What is the origin of the phrase "porcupine's balls"? I hear this all the time lately but have no idea where it comes from.

Porcupine balls are meat balls made of ground beef and rice. There is also a rubbery-plastic toy called a porcupine ball. If you are hearing this phrase a lot, maybe you should stop telling such tall tales. What's the origin of the phrase "Porcupine's Balls"? I hear this all the time lately but have no idea where it comes from. From where comes the phrase 'Let's talk turkey'? Gmack mentioned the word 'smithereens' in a previous post, and I'm curious as to where the phrase comes from, and to what smithereens are. (Of course I've heard and used the phrase a plethora of times, but never thought about it literally until now.) Any ideas?
