    What is the difference between a sepuku and a harakiri?

    		There is no difference. Both terms refer to ceremonial suicide by disembowelment. Seppuku is the more common word in Japan and is written with the characters 'cut belly'. Harakiri has become the more well-known term in English. It is written with the same characters in the reverse order, ie 'belly cut'.
