"Anacoluthon" is a rhetorical device involving an abrupt change of syntax -- often tense -- within a sentence: "Were you crazy, don't you know what they'll do to you?"

It's more of a change of thought or direction within the structure of a sentence, considered poor formal prose but can be effective for colloquial-speak. Used very often as an attention-getter by speakers. Compare to aposiopesis, a close cousin.
