According to the Biography Channel his first novel was 'Rage.'
It was not printed until 1977 and only because of King's persistence. This book later sparked controversy after a student mimicked the book and took his school hostage. Because of this, King has prohibited any further printings of 'Rage.'
His first published novel was 'Carrie' (1974).

However 'Blaze' was written before 'Carrie' and it was now just published. According to Stephen J Spignesi in 'The lost works of Stephen King', 'Blaze' was completed on Feb 15, 1973, around the same time he was writing 'Second Coming' later to be retitled 'Salem's Lot.'
