With the Commonwealth Games coming up, I'm prompted to ask: which countries are members of the Commonwealth but were never part of the British Empire? I don't count countries created by partiton like Pakistan and Bangladesh.

I think the only Commonwealth member that was never governed by Britain is Mozambique. It was admitted because it has close links with other Commonwealth countries (the countries that surround it are all members of the Commonwealth).
Cameroon consists largely of former French territory, but it also contains part of the former British (West) Cameroons.
