Since the two schools are frequently confused, I'll clarify:
"Pennsylvania" refers to the University of Pennsylvania, a private, Ivy League school that has, in fact, made several visits to the NCAA basketball tournament, including one trip to the Final Four in 1979. Penn and Princeton frequently fight it out for the Ivy title each year, but Penn has won the title 22 times since 1970.
Pennsylvania State University is a public university and is never called anything but "Penn State." It is best known for football.
