I have it from a reputable source, in the Laura Ingall Wilder book series collection set, that in 'On The Way Home' Laura breaks her wedding vow by letting her husband know, "You're not telling me what to do." What was her statement about?

If you are referring to a marital "vow to obey," then I'm somewhat confused. As I recall, in "These Happy Golden Years," Laura decides, in advance of her marriage ceremony, that she will not vow to obey her husband, Almanzo.
However, it is well-known that the "Little House" books do not fully or accurately reflect Laura Ingalls Wilder's experiences. She wrote and edited them quite late in her life, and there is controversy about her daughter Rose Wilder Lane's involvement in the editing/revision process.
So: it is quite possible that the "On The Way Home" diary records reality, while "These Happy Golden Years" records wishful thinking -- from either Laura or Rose -- many years later.
