Nimrod, son of Cush, was “a mighty one in the earth” and “a mighty hunter before the Lord” (Genesis, ch 10).
Bugs Bunny, hunted by Elmer Fudd, derisively called his pursuer “poor little Nimrod,” and this has given the name rather different overtones: it can imply an idiot or an ineffectual person.

Nimrod is certainly Biblical and certainly the term or word Nimrod as it is used today is a direct reference to this Biblical person.
Genesis 10:8 - Cush became the father of Nimrod; he was the first on earth to be a mighty man.
Genesis 10:9 - He was a mighty hunter before the LORD; therefore it is said, "Like Nimrod a mighty hunter before the LORD."
1 Chronicles 1:10 - Cush was the father of Nimrod; he began to be a mighty one in the earth.
Micah 5:6 - they shall rule the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod with the drawn sword; and they shall deliver us from the Assyrian when he comes into our land and treads within our border.
