    What separates a nave from a choir?

    Some churches don't have roodscreens (many that once existed have been lost). Architecturally speaking, in a standard cruciform church, the crossing, where the nave intercepts the transept, precedes the chancel, which contains the choir and altar.

    Though one encounter more unusual configurations. See Canterbury Cathedral.
