The number of police reported accidents in the U.S.A. for the year 2004 was an estimated 6,181,000. That figures breaks down to approx. 16,934 accidents that were reported to the police each day. From http://www-nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov/pdf/nrd-30/NCSA/TSF2004/809911.pdf
