This afternoon, I visited an exhibition on Pompeii and saw a couple of interesting items that no respectable Roman householder would have been without, for fear of dire consequences. In fact (and though they hadn't done him much good), a certain legendary hero is said to have rescued the ones that belonged to his family and transported them to a new home, when his old one went up in smoke. What was I looking at?

A yay, peasy!
Lares would have done just fine, since, sadly, there weren't any Penates on view (though I would have accepted either answer). I did see this charming little silver fertility pendant, which was a remarkably lifelike representation in miniature of -- well, you get the idea.
And as for the hero, it was, of course, Aeneas. There's a wonderful painting by Federico Barocci of Aeneas fleeing the burning Troy, carrying his father Anchises, who clutches the family Lares and Penates. It appears on this site:

Why thankyou, dearie, a Golden Penate for me then?
Remembering back to my last trip to Pompeii, I distinctly recall alot of 'merchandise' for sale outside the excavation site, and naturally, I just had to get my mother an apron with, well, you know. I couldn't resist. She was not impressed. ;)

This afternoon, I visited an exhibition on a certain inventor, most of whose ideas never saw the light of day back in his own era. However, one of his speculative inventions was tested by a woman back in 2003, and it did turn out to work. Who was this man, who is the woman, and what did she test?

I have been trying to find this person's name online, but I cannot. I saw him in the Guinness Book of World Records. He was able to speak, write and read the most languages ever, like 100 or something, I can't remember, and he worked for the UN. Does anyone have a Guinness book and can find his name or show me a website? Thanks.
Was there ever a Carl's Junior Jr. Restaurant? This would have been a smaller version of the regular Carl's Jr. I think I saw one a while back somewhere in Hollywood or LA. I have a bet riding on this.
