Puerto Rico and Northern Mariana Islands are both "commonwealths" of the United States, while Guam and the US Virgin Islands are "unincorporated territories" of the United States. What is the difference? And what is the status of American Samoa? What US states have a panhandle? In American History they claimed that there were only 46 states and the other four were commonwealths. I think they said Pennsylvania was one of them. If this were so, then like D.C., they wouldn't be able to vote. Does anyone know the right answer to this? What US states' names are of French origin?
