I'm sure they grow big enough to have as a main course... you could have a nice pate or something for starters.

There's a recipe in Countess Murphy's Recipes of All Nations for Fricassée of Iguana, in which you use the back meat (apparently it tastes something like chicken). If you want, I'll see if i can find the book. I've got it somewhere.

Most reptiles continue to grow their entire lives, so if you keep one around long enough it'll get big enough. I would worry that age would make the meat too tough.

If it sees that book it'll worry far more then you will...

Now, why is it that virtually every exotic food is said to taste like chicken? I heard this about rattlesnake recently.
Doesn't anything unusual taste like, say, liver?

Probably people tend not to eat things that taste like liver if there's something tasting like chicken around. Liver - yuk! Hated it and refused to eat it after the first taste as a small kid before I even knew what it was called. And it was done without onions, so you can't even blame the onions for putting me off. Actually, I think on reflection that the questioner wasn't referring to the use of iguanas as food. Having looked at his/her blurb I feel that their suitability for keeping as a first reptile pet was meant. Where's Wolfie? He'd know. OK Baloo, do it yourself. According to http://www.anapsid.org/iguana/agesize.html at 1 year they are about 2 foot and at 7 years old they can be from 4 to 6 foot long (including tail). While they are not tender little hothouse flowers, I don't recommend one for a beginner unless they are sure they are going to have the space to keep it. Unlike a hamster, it's not just going to be for two Christmases...

Iguanas, like most reptiles, can be limited in size by the size of their enclosure. A small cage will curtail the growth of most reptiles. This not to say that you can create a "pygmy" Iguana, you will just lessen the maximum size that this creature will become.

Bonsai iguanas?

In case you really mean as a starter pet- no. Iguanas are one of the hardest reptiles to keep properly; their herbivorous diet is difficult to balance properly and they are prone to many nutritional disorders.

I certainly would prefer a Bonsai Iguana to a Iguana concubine. Yes?

I know very little about iguanas but one thing i do know is that they can be quite 'vicious', especially with male iguanas and male humans (they can sense the correct time to mate with both iguanas and humans) and can also attack the females if they refuse to cooperate.
