    Denny Lyons (52 games)
    Pete Rose (44 games)

Let's erase Lyons from the list. According to your reference site, Lyons ran up his streak when a walk counted as a hit. If we apply those rules, Babe Ruth, Barry Bonds, Rickey Henderson or Ted Williams almost certainly have have exceeded DiMaggio's record, as would Joe D. himself.
But don't forget Wee Willie Keeler, who is legitimately tied with Rose for the second-longest streak, at 44 games.
