The Guardian Angels were founded in 1979 by Curtis Sliwa, a night manager for a McDonalds in a crime ridden area of the Bronx. Sickened by the situation around him, he formed a voluntary, weapon-free patrol to "take the subways, the streets and the neighborhood back from crime."
