When you enter Muslim in the search box at dictionary.com you get "Moslem" as the first definition.
Until around the late 1980s, the word was commonly spelled Moslem. The spelling has since fallen into disuse. Muslims do not recommend this spelling because it is often pronounced "mawzlem" /mɒzlɛm/ which sounds somewhat similar to an Arabic word for "oppressor" (Za'lem in Arabic). The word is pronounced /muslem/ in Arabic, but often /mʊzlɪm/ in English. The word is now most commonly written "Muslim".

Do not confuse 'real' Moslems with the Nation of Islam. Generally speaking members of this group promote violence and ethnic cleansing desires toward the 'white devils' or anyone who does not believe in their doctrine.
This attitude is as potent as the Sunni - Shi'ite conflict.
The Nation of Islam (NOI) is a religious and socio-political organization founded in the United States by Wallace Fard Muhammad in 1930 with a declared aim of "resurrecting" the spiritual, mental, social and economic condition of the black men and women of America and the rest of the world. Although it considers itself a form of Islam, its significant divergence from traditional doctrine has led many Muslims to consider it blasphemous.

Both spellings are acceptable. In proper Arabic there is no real difference between the vowels "o" and "u", and much of the spelling and transliteration is dependant on the region in question.

As an example, living in a Gulf State, I find Muslim used far more often in the printed media etc, and Moslem restricted to other, non regional sources.
