The bunnies (or hares in Germany) and eggs are to do with Eostre from whom we get the word Easter. Eostre is the goddess of the spring and rebirth - hence bunnies who are good at reproduction.... Easter is in origin the spring festival, and should be joyful. Not like all these interminable Bach Passions and Cantatas that drone on and on and on. (OK, he did write some good stuff.
