Is there really an organization called the Life and Death Brigade, and if so, what are some things they do, and how do you get in?

    Question #64611. Asked by locococo4284. (Apr 13 06 3:58 PM)

If you are talking about the organization that appears in the show "Gilmore Girls," the answer is no, there is no "Life and Death Brigade."

If you are talking about "Skull and Bones" at Yale University, on which the LDB is supposedly loosely based, then yes, it exists. And the first thing you have to do to get in is be admitted to Yale.

After that -- well, who knows? You won't hear it from me.

Actually, LDB is loosely based off of the Dangerous Sports Club out of Oxford more so than Skull and Bones. LDB is only similar to Skull and Bones in the face that it is concealed and at Yale. Everything else, the stunts and events and lifestyles are patterned after those of the DSC. The Palladino's have acknowledged this themselves.

At the Battle of Balaklava Heights during the Crimean War an old Erol Flynn movie about the famous "Light Brigade" (you know, "into the valley of death rode the 600") created the impression that the brigade made its charge with such determination because among the troops in the Russian lines was a man with whom the brigade had a grudge from a previous engagement, and the goal of every man in the brigade was to find him and kill him. Is that actually true or is it just another movie myth?

Master of the macabre, Edgar Allen Poe, has just been on the phone. (I know he's dead, but masters of the macabre can do these sort of things.) He is starting up a library, and he wants me to look out for a few books. The books he wants are "The Dance of Death," "Narrative of the Life of James Allen, alias Jonas Pierce, alias James H. York, alias Burley Grove, the Highwayman, Being His Death-bed Confession to the Warden of the Massachusetts State Prison" and "A True and Perfect Relation of the Whole Proceedings Against the Late Most Barbarous Traitors, Garnet A. Jesuit and His Confederates." Why would he want these books?
