Known in English by a name that makes many of us think of a large and pompous chicken, this city rose to importance under a famed family and was the birthplace of a significant artist and of a prominent financier/philanthropist, who established his reputation in another country and was mentioned in the works of some great novelists. What is the city, who were the artist and the financier, and who's the chicken?

I'd say Leghorn/Livorno in Italy, from Foghorn Leghorn the chicken, the financier being Moses Montefiore, but the most famous artist I could find was Modigliani which I hope is the right answer..

Livorno, aka Leghorn, a port city, was built up in the late 16th century under the Medici, by architect/designer Bernardo Buontalenti. Montefiore's name appears in writings by Dickens, George Eliot, and Joyce. And the Livornese Modigliani is a quite significant artist.
