Golgotha (the place of the skulls) in Jerusalem.
The Bible says Golgotha (John 19:17).

That there is almost an equal amount of researched conjecture and expert opinion on the exact place, it is still illogical to say 'we don't know', when in fact many biblical and historical authorities apparently are convinced it is either Golgotha or the Sepulchre.

Well, the Gospel might say Golgo(l)tha, but I think that the point one of our posters is making is that we don't know exactly where that is.
If you visit the Old City of Jerusalem, one of the most toured sights in the world is the Via Dolorosa, the final journey of Jesus before his crucifixion. The separate churches have their versions of exactly where everything is, the stations of the cross, the Rock of Ascension etc., but for the most part the sites are not far from one another.

Thank you, Arpeggionist, that was exactly my point.
I might also point out that Gospels as we have them today are not the originals. They were copied, recopied, and copied again, added to and deleted from and full of scribal errors. We do not have the original Gospels, and in many cases, our earliest versions are quite late. We don't even know what the sources were, and we can be sure, in the case of many biblical texts, that they are wrong.
We do not know where "Golgotha," if indeed that was the original name of the place, was.

Let's face it, a suitable answer to the 'where' in this question is *Outside the gates of the city* (to which Matthew, Mark and John called it Golgotha, and Luke called it Calvary).
A reason that the crucifixions took place *outside of the city* was because of the strict Jewish laws regarding the proximity of dead bodies to the living. Coming into contact with a dead body meant a period of ritual cleansing for uncleanness. (Numbers 19:11-22).

Jesus was crucified in Golgotha in Jerusalem. Golgotha means the place of the skulls.
