On the many incarnations of the Super Friends cartoons of the 70's and early 80's, several characters were introduced who did not appear in the comic book universe. Among the super heros that were introduced was El Diablo. What exactly was his special power or powers? I've seen him pictured during the opening credits but never saw him in an episode.

According to the Michigan State University Libraries' Special Collections Division Reading Room Index to the Comic Art Collection:

"Various characters have had this name, notably a DC western character later updated to a kind of superhero"

Then they list a series of comic books references with dates ranging from the 1940s to the 1990s.

I don't know what version may have been the inspiration for the "El Diablo" in the television opening credits you're remembering.
