    Question #65202. lanfranco asks:

This influential philosopher and social reformer made a stipulation in his will that has caused problems for a certain well-known university, where the testamentary condition has repeatedly inspired student pranks and necessitated preventive measures. Nevertheless, the individual in question continues to appear at various functions. Who was he?

    JaneofGaunt

This could be poor old Jeremy Bentham who played a part in the establishment of University College, London, and whose will stipulated that he be preserved in a wooden cabinet and put on display at the university. This was done, but he's been taken out and put back several times over the years.

And a yay to you, Jane!

Though I wouldn't call him "poor old Jeremy," since he did ask for it, after all.

I wonder where they're keeping the skull?

This link gives a picture of Jeremy (and I called him 'poor old' simply because he did ask for it!)with his head between his feet. Another site states that the last straw as regards the students was when they were caught playing football with his head, and that the head now is locked in the college vaults.

    Thanks, Jane.

The head usually seen with him is actually a waxwork head, from what I remember. You wouldn't get away with something like that now - Health & Safety or Department of General Interference would put a stop to it.
