Two kids found two old coins. The first one said it was minted in 43 BC, while on the other said it was minted during the reign of Emperor Nicholas I. Which of the coins was fake?

Both. The first one would not know BC years, and the second one wouldn't say Nicholas I, because they don't know there will be another.

BC was not BC when it was BC. Only after AD.

Nicholas I was Nicholas until a new Nicholas came to power
then He was know as Nicholas I and the new Nicholas became Nicholas II.

It reminds me of the archaeologist who claimed his two skulls were those of Cleoptra as a little girl and Cleopatra as a grown woman!

That same apocryphal story has been told about the skull[s] of Pancho Villa.

43 AD would have been just as erroneous, since the adoption of AD only started in 525 AD!

Actually, some rulers have called themselves 'the First'. King Zog I of Albania and Juan Carlos I of Spain for two.
