    I don't think that this is the answer your looking for, but both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, after their terms as presidents, learned Greek in order to better understand Aristotle.

    It was David Ben-Gurion, who learned Spanish so as to be able to read "Don Quixote."

    I suppose one could learn some interesting diplomatic lessons from that book:
