What is the RC church's current position on St. Christopher, is he still considered the patron saint of travelers, or has he now been reduced in rank to a mere myth?

He forcibly resided in several places, wearing an item reportedly made of velvet but said, in a fictional account, to have been made of something else altogether. His real name is unknown, but he has been identified as a French Marshal, an Italian minister, three different royal bastards, a mere valet, and even the inspiration for quite another work by the author of the fictional account. Who was he? (Or, at least, by what description do we know him?) During World War II my father was taken prisoner in Italy. Family myth has always assumed that my mother found out his whereabouts from a weekly broadcast from Vatican Radio. This has now been questioned by several family members. Does anyone know if Vatican Radio, if there is there such a thing, did broadcast lists of POWs? Why has Ian Millward been suspended from St. Helens RLFC? 2500 years old, it was made by two people but named after only one of them. Questions were raised about it as soon as it arrived in its current home, of which it has been regarded as one of the great treasures. Now, after over 30 years, it is being returned to the land where it was found. What is it, and for whom was it NOT named?
