According to a tomb relief, the Egyptians might have been the first to produce it. Later, Pliny the Elder cited a famous gourmet's practice involving a certain fruit, and observant medieval Jews discovered its joys while trying to keep kosher. Highly controversial, the standard production method of this item has been made illegal in many countries. What am I talking about?

Well, Frankie dearest, did I not hear you mumbling something a couple days ago about your foie gras you were enjoying?

    Mumbling? I never mumble.

But yes, I did wonder whether anyone would pick up on that remark. Foie gras is correct, and you get a yay!

And it is true that Chicago has become the first city in the world to ban foie gras. Though King Richard II (aka "The Mayor") has been widely quoted as wondering why foie gras takes precendence over gang leaders and dope dealers:

Nothing gets past peasy, but the Pliny bit was the giveaway for me.

Interestingly, I read somewhere not long ago how Australia can import semi-cooked foie gras but not fresh or raw. Must see if I can find that article.

The son of a London shop owner whose place of business was made famous in a charming epistolary book, this rather colorful figure played a significant role in wartime intelligence activities involving clandestine communications. Later, he was responsible for a highly-regarded but once controversial horror film, and he was also the voice of evil in an even more controversial film released nearly 20 years ago. Who was he, what was his father's business, and what are those two films?

The tomb of the unknown soldier exists in many countries in the world (Australia, Brazil and France, etc.) and is used to commemorate the soldiers who fought and died during war time. Pliny the Elder wrote about one, as did Ptolemy, but where today could I find one sitting perilously that contains a famous hair that half the population cannot touch?
