If you can get hold of a book called "It Happened In New York", then according to Amazon's reviews, there is a section called "Potpourri of Facts" which includes the number of buildings in Manhattan. I couldn't tell you how many buildings there are in my village, but using aerial photography, it must be perfectly possible to estimate such information. May 07 06, 8:10 PM

As per the owner of the first site I referenced via e-mail: www.didik.com/nycinpictures/archive.htm "There are about 110,000 separate blocks and lots, though this includes such things as vacant lots, air rights, condominiums and certain utility easements. The actual number of lots with "improvements" which includes apartment buildings, private homes, office buildings, temporary structures, garages and similar is about 69,000. There are also buildings classed as garages and utility buildings that you may not want to include in the total. The total count of buildings for NYC is roughly 900,000 according to the same source.
