Why is it that I see the US hardback edition of The Da Vinci Code has 454 pages, while the UK hardback edition has 359 pages, is this just due to different size font or page size, or is there actually more material in the US edition?

Random House published a "Special Illustrated Edition", with 160 illustrations interspersed with the text...could be that's the issue...

Looking at amazon.com, most of the copies of William Shirer's Berlin Diary is like over 600 pages and costs $25 paperback, but I bought a copy that is hardback with closer to 480 pages, yet was only $10, did I happen to buy an abridged version, and also I thought hardbacks cost a lot more than paperback?
