    In Japan pokemon is known as pocket monsters. How does pocket monsters and pokemon relate and why are they called that?

    		Yup...just like satguru said..."Okay! So what is Pokemon you ask? Well, Pokemon stands for Pocket Monsters."

    		well the creators thought that the name was too long and not catchy so they decided to go with something shorter and catchier. There was also a legal problem when changing the name.
    In the end they ended up naming it pokemon.
