My husband is obsessed with a certain type of puzzle, the name of which is actually an abbreviation. It was possibly inspired by the invention of a famed mathematician, and even a character on a television drama has been seen trying to solve an example. What is this puzzle, what is the translation of its full name, and who was the mathematician?

    A yay to you, Ceetee!

I posted this question because today is my husband's (aka The Maven's) birthday, and I've given him an electronic Sudoku generator as one of his gifts.

I may end up regretting this.
