    1646: King Charles I surrendered at Newark, Scotland, ending the English Civil War; he was beheaded three years later.

    Oops. Newark is on the Trent, some miles downstream from Nottingham and nowhere near Scotland.

    Charles I's surrender to the Scots didn't end the English Civil War altogether and there was a 'second' civil war - or continuation - shortly afterwards. (There was further fighting in the 'third' English civil war, which followed Charles I's execution).
