This question seems very open ended and I think most answers could be easily debated on the basis of several key points. In Colorado, the answer would be the Anasazi, Utes and Sioux...However...this site states:
The Dakota and Lakota Sioux peoples are probably the most famous and least-understood of the American Indians.

If you're talking which tribes are most well-known--I'd say there are probably several tribes that nearly every American has heard something about. In many cases, it's because of famous incidents or warriors. The Apache is very well known because of leaders like Geronimo and Cochise. The Sioux are prevalent because of names like Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse. Other tribes are household names as well: the Iraquois, the Hopi, the Navaho, the Cherokee, the Comanche etc.
